I am a portrait painter working in a classical tradition. Working from life as well as photographs, I try to retain the feeling of intimacy that comes from carefully observed personal interaction using finely rendered detail. I often prefer to isolate the subjects from environmental context.

 

My work is as much an investigation of the properties of oil paint and the materiality of surface as it is a medium to celebrate the beauty and individualism of my subjects.
